In January 2017 the Association held our Annual General Meeting.  Thanks to member Chai Yee Wei for providing the venue at his Mocha Chai Laboratories. Following the main business of the AGM, there were several speakers

Grace Dong from IMDA provided an update on the Freelancer Landscape and IMDA Media Freelancer Initiatives.

Loong Seng Onn from MCS shared his team’s experiences in mediation.

Member Ian Gregory, from Witching Hours, showed a video highlighting games and discussed the need for strong gamewriting skills.

Member Zafar Anjum, from FilmWallas, showcased their beta site for story and film collaboration.

Golden Village generously provided complimentary movie tickets for a lucky draw for members.

There was then a dinner buffet and a tour of the facilities at the Mocha Chai Laboratories

In January 2017 the Association conducted the first Making A Scene Scriptwriting Workshop, supported by IMDA and the National Library Board. The workshop was held at Marine Parade Public Library, conducted by Ng Swee San and Derek Judge, supported by Jackie Chan, and attended by nearly 30 enthusiastic writers.

In December 2016, the committee was busy preparing workshop materials for the Making A Scene workshop.

In November 2016, there was a followup meeting with IMDA regarding the request for a secretariat resource.

In November 2016, the Association committee met with Gabriel Lim, the outgoing CEO of IMDA.

In October 2016, the Association held a closed-door session with the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore, regarding the upcoming changes to the Copyright Act.

In September 2016, the Association committee met with the committee for the Asian Festival of Children's Content.

In September 2016, the Association took part in the inaugural NTUC Fair for Freelancers at Red Dot Design Museum. Plenty of good conversations with media freelancers.

The Screenwriters Association officially signed the Mediation Charter with the Singapore Mediation Centre. Mediation can provide an effective way for our members to resolve issues such as late or non-payment.

Met with the Law Society Pro Bono Arm in July 2016. They kindly agreed to help discuss some legal matters - really appreciate their help!

The Screenwriters Association will be presenting a best screenplay award at the NYFA event on July 23.

Members visited Epigram Books, where CEO Edmund Wee shared suggestions of some local stories that could make great movies. He also discussed upcoming plans for Epigram Books and what kinds of novels they are looking to publish.This was followed by refreshments and discussion - and discounted books for members :)

The Committee met with the MDA on July 1 2016.The meeting was to discuss progress with the proposal for a Secretariat, and also to provide updates on proposals for workshops and a recommended rates table.

The Screenwriters Association presented Afiq Jaafar with the inaugural Student Screenplay Award.The award was made at a showcase of Puttnam School of Film, Lasalle thesis films, on May 17.

In April 2016, the Committee met with the new Nominated MP for the Arts, Kok Heng Luen.

On March 12, members attended a screening by the NAC of Love me if you dare at The Projector in Beach Road.This was followed by a Q&A session with director Yann Samuel.

The 2016 Screenwriters Association AGM was held on January 31, 2016. At the meeting there was a review of 2015 activities, approval of finances, and discussion of activities for 2016 over refreshments. Association T-shirts were provided to all who attended the meeting. Thanks to member Noel Rodrigues for the design. A lucky draw was held, special thanks to Golden Village for providing prizes of movie tickets.

The new committee was also elected, for a term of 2 years from January 2016: President - Ng Swee San Vice-President - Olivia Loh-Ing Secretary - Derek Judge Treasurer - Jaclyn Chan

In December 2015 there was a movie outing for members to watch the latest Star Wars movie at Bugis Junction.
